History of AUUS Games

The Association of Uganda University Sports(AUUS) formerly Naional Sports Federation of Uganda (NUSFU) was formed in 1992 by four higher institutions  of learning namely Makerere, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Institute of Teacher Education, Kyambogo University, Islamic University in Uganda.

The brain child behind NUSFU by then Principal Sports Tutor of Makerere University,Mr. Era N.B Mugisa. He founded NUSFU on the basis of the world  University Federation statutes that require every country under the olympic movement with institutions of higher learning to have the national sports federation to champion sports development in the Universities.

Uganda Christian University will be hosting the 19th Edition of the AUUS Games, which will take place from December ​16th to December 21st, 2023. Previously known a​s NUSUF games, these games were last hosted at the University of Kisubi in 2019. This upcoming edition will be significant as it marks the first one since the pandemic outbreak.

UCU, one of the best hosts, if not the absolute best, has hosted previous editions of the AUUS Games i​n ​2007 and 2013. These games are the most prominent university competitions and occur every two years, giving universities from all over the country a chance to compete in over 16 sports events.

The executive can select the following host for the university games in the AGM, where bids from various interested universities in the country are received.

Other players mainly use their feet to strike or pass the ball, but may also use their head or torso. The team that scores the most goals by the end of the match wins. If the score is level at the end of the game, either a draw is declared or the game goes into extra time or a penalty shootout depending on the format of the competition.

AUUS is registered internationally by FISU, and as a region under FASU. It is the official governing body of all University Sports competitions.
