With the much-anticipated return of the Uganda Netball Super League on April 5, 2025, after a two-year hiatus, the netball community has taken a significant step forward in athlete representation. Uganda Christian University (UCU) Angels captain Linda Muzigo has been elected as the pioneer Chairperson of the Netball Uganda Athletes’ Committee, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering players and strengthening governance in the sport.

Muzigo’s election, which took place on March 5, 2025, at the Uganda Olympic Committee’s (UOC) premises in Lugogo, Kampala, marks a transformative moment for netball in Uganda. The committee was established in response to recent governance challenges within the Uganda Netball Federation (UNF), leading to the intervention of a normalization committee. Its formation ensures that players have a structured platform to voice their concerns and contribute to decision-making processes that impact their careers.

As a third-year Business Administration student at UCU, Muzigo brings a wealth of leadership experience to her new role. She currently serves as the captain of the UCU Angels netball team and has played a pivotal role as the former university student’s guild sports minister.

“It’s an honor to serve as the pioneer chairperson of this committee,” Muzigo said. “For too long, athletes have lacked direct representation at the executive level. Now, we have the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations, advocate for our rights, and drive positive change in the governance of netball in Uganda.”

Muzigo is committed to fostering a culture of professionalism, inclusivity, and accountability within the sport. She emphasized that her leadership will be centered on listening to athletes, addressing their concerns through the right channels, and ensuring that every decision made benefits players at all levels.

“As athletes, we understand our struggles better than anyone else,” she explained. “My priority is to create a bridge between players and administrators, ensuring that our voices are heard and our needs are met with well-researched, practical solutions,” she added.
